{"id":48,"date":"2015-06-04T14:03:40","date_gmt":"2015-06-04T13:03:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/duncan.mackay.co.uk\/hobsonsconduit\/?page_id=48"},"modified":"2015-12-04T15:54:11","modified_gmt":"2015-12-04T15:54:11","slug":"the-trust","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/duncan.mackay.co.uk\/hobsonsconduit\/the-trust\/","title":{"rendered":"The Trust"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hobson\u2019s Conduit Trust is the body responsible for the upkeep of Hobson\u2019s Brook from Nine Wells to the Conduit Head, and then its various underground branches through Cambridge. \u00a0The Trust in approximately its present form dates from 1899 &#8211; see [history page &#8211; link] for more details of its early life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nowadays, the objectives of the Trust can be summarised as:<\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To preserve an historic chalk stream for its ecological and public amenity value.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\" start=\"2\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To provide a supply of water to the street runnels, Emmanuel, Christ&#8217;s \u00a0and Pembroke Colleges and to the University Botanic Garden.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\" start=\"3\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To continue to provide a drainage water course and to preserve its character as an example of early civil engineering.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\" start=\"4\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In pursuance of the above to maintain an acceptable maximum and minimum volume of flow and an acceptable minimum quality of water.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\" start=\"5\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To secure and preserve a level of funding adequate to support these objectives.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Trustees are supported in their pursuance of these objectives by professional help, mainly from officers of Cambridge City Council. \u00a0These officers include the Trust\u2019s Clerk, Engineer and Accountant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Trust\u2019s constitution allows for fifteen Trustees; currently there are twelve. \u00a0If you think you might be interested in becoming a Trustee, please contact the Clerk, [toni.birkin@cambridge.gov.uk \u2013 link].<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We also have a group of local volunteers who help with various practical tasks along Hobson\u2019s Brook. \u00a0See our Volunteers page [link] for further details.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a Registered Charity, the Trust\u2019s accounts and reports for the last five years can be seen on the Charity Commission website at www.charitycommission.gov.uk. \u00a0Click on \u201cFind Charities\u201d then enter our charity number 204644 in the search box.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can see a list of the current Trustees here:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/duncan.mackay.co.uk\/hobsonsconduit\/the-trust\/trustees\/\">Trustees page<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hobson\u2019s Conduit Trust is the body responsible for the upkeep of Hobson\u2019s Brook from Nine Wells to the Conduit Head, and then its various underground branches through Cambridge. \u00a0The Trust in approximately its present form dates from 1899 &#8211; see [history page &#8211; link] for more details of its early life.
