Great shoals of them can be seen all through the year. Max length 50 mm. Midge larvae and chironomids are the main food item. \u00a0Breeding starts in April when the brightly coloured males become very territorial.<\/p>\n<h3>Ten spined Stickleback<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"float: right; margin-left: 10px; margin-bottom: 25px; margin-top: 30px; border: solid black 1px; padding: 2px;\" src=\"http:\/\/duncan.mackay.co.uk\/hobsonsconduit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/10spined-c.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"270\" \/><br \/>\nLess common than the three spined, this fish can have between eight\u00a0and twelve spines and more secretive in nature. This species is occasionally seen along most of the conduit. It is mostly up to 50mm long, but can occasionally grow larger.<\/p>\n<h3>Millers Thumb<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"float: right; margin-left: 10px; margin-bottom: 5px; margin-top: 30px; border: solid black 1px; padding: 2px;\" src=\"http:\/\/duncan.mackay.co.uk\/hobsonsconduit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/millers-thumb-b.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"100\" \/><br \/>\nAlso known as the Bullhead is found mostly in the middle to upper reaches of the conduit. The colouration can vary greatly and matches the surroundings. The maximum size is 60 to 80 mm. \u00a0Its eats a wide range of food including insects and other invertebrates.<\/p>\n<h3>Minnow<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"float: right; margin-left: 10px; margin-bottom: 5px; margin-top: 30px; border: solid black 1px; padding: 2px;\" src=\"http:\/\/duncan.mackay.co.uk\/hobsonsconduit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/minnowc.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"280\" \/><br \/>\nA \u00a0resident of the conduit that is far less common than the three spined stickleback. Can form large shoals. Max length\u00a080 mm.<\/p>\n<h3>Stone Loach<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"float: right; margin-left: 10px; margin-bottom: 5px; margin-top: 30px; border: solid black 1px; padding: 2px;\" src=\"http:\/\/duncan.mackay.co.uk\/hobsonsconduit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/stone-loach.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"280\" \/><br \/>\nThe largest of the fish commonly found in the conduit. Max length 140 mm.
